Description
Visit Of The City And castle of Rozafa
In the morning we head to Shkodra, the most important city in the north of Albania, located in a beautiful plain in front of the largest lake in the Balkans that bears the name of the city and with the Albanian Alps as a backdrop. We will take a walking tour in “Gjuhadol”, a recently renovated pedestrian zone with Italian and Austrian architectural influences, testimony of the historical links of this city with these two countries. Then we will visit the OPTIONAL Marubi Museum (a master photographer from the end of the 19th century), which houses an exhibition of old photographs. He took the first photograph in the Balkans in 1856. Marubi was based in Shkodra but was also invited to work for the King of Montenegro. He left a wealth of 500,000 negatives of glass. Shkodra is the only Illyrian capital mentioned in the III-II centuries BC. When visiting the castle of Rozafa, we will not only experience the supremacy that the Illyrians would have felt over their enemies standing in such an imposing castle, but we will also admire impressive 360-degree views. After this opportunity to take a photo, we will suggest an OPTIONAL lunch in the agritourism “Mrizi i Zanave” between Shkodra and Lezha. We will taste some delicacies from this region such as pickles, local cheeses, organic olive oil, various types of bread, etc. in its rustic form; the main specialty of the restaurant is young goat meat made in a very traditional way.
Visit Of The City And The Castle of Skanderbeg And The Bazaar
After this culinary highlight, we headed towards Kruja, the center of the Albanian resistance against the Ottomans under the command of our National Hero, Scanderbeg. He prevented the Ottoman armies from crossing Western Europe for 25 years, thus earning the title of “Athleta Christi” granted by the Pope of the time. We will visit the Skanderbeg Museum and a rich Ethnographic Museum (optional) with almost all original articles from the end of the XVIII century. Finally we opened a passage through the famous Bazar de Kruja full of traditional crafts and souvenirs. We spent some free time for our account before returning to the capital. Return to Tirana.
